Going to exotic places and seeing just how thin the veneer of civilization was... It's illuminating.
I never felt that I'd moved much politically, but that the people who wanted my vote kept shifting away.
While I understand HOW gay rights and gun rights end up on opposite sides of the center; I still don't Grok WHY.
I really don't understand how or why it became mandatory to hate the people who disagree with you and I'm as shocked as anyone that it's the accepting and tolerant Left that's the party of hate.
To see that they were never accepting and tolerant was my political awakening.
Have to say it was pretty much the same for me... I'm pretty solidly center on almost everything even after leaving the Army, lower case "l" libertarian (NOT a member of that or any Party) believing silly things like "leave me alone", "do whatever you want as long as no one gets hurt and don't take anyone's stuff" and of course "do not involve children"... Made me "literally a Nazi" working for the U of I in Illinois, so moved to Texas where I'm actually fairly liberal here in the far North of the State. Seeing the left shift so far to the left was not good, but now that the gloves are off? Well, I'm REALLY hoping that Mr. Correia's "switch" has not been flipped with the events of the last few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I never considered you a liberal. Sure, on some issues maybe. But then again when we were in elementary school Geff was pretty liberal too. I've been right leaning on most issues for a long time. But my opinions on some topics have shifted as well.

ReplyDeleteThat you found the emotional strength to see that puts you in the minority. The fact that the same people who say brilliant things like Follow the Science but pretend men can get pregnant and say things like being tolerant is important while they absotively hate anyone who disagrees with them ,,damn,, it's getting tiresome.. Some days I wish a person, and we all know No Person can be Illegal,, I just wish those leftards would go home to discover a Not illegal person having a sammich, watching The View , Sittin on their couch. The DeFund the police poster would go straight in the trash.
I can't help but wonder if these are just more examples of that old saying,

I think I was about 40 when I realized I no longer fit in on the left. Might have been a couple of years either younger or older.
The lefties are constantly trying to prove just HOW "enlightened" they are. It's an endless game of one-upmanship. And they are never, ever satisfied. Giving in to them on anything at all is like feeding the dog at the dinner table---once you've done it, the dog will be back begging for more endlessly. The only way to deal with them is never, ever to give an inch to them on anything.
