The Glock 17 Gen 1 Classic does not have a hole for a lanyard at the back of the grip.
My original did!
Except that it didn't. The lanyard hole doesn't appear until the Gen 2.
Neither of my Gen 1's, nor the Austrian P80, have that hole.
But I remember it being there.
I remember attaching my lanyard to my G17 when we went to the Czech border.
Which makes me wonder... Did I drill a hole for it?
Probably not and I probably didn't use my lanyard either.
It's strange.

I hit Glock Talk and found a thread on this topic and found:
Some do, some don't and they begin to appear sometime in '87. Late enough for mine.
Just as an FYI, and if you even really care, My GEN 1 G17 does have a hole for a lanyard. Bought it brand new in '94 I believe. Ser # is 3 letters with 3 #'s so it's definitely old but has aged well.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a pic? Because lots of "Gen 1" G17's are Gen 2.
DeleteBrand new in 1994 would be Gen 2 unless it'd been sitting around for six years unsold.

The first triple letter prefix guns were made in 1992 and were 2nd gen guns.
DeleteAll the 1st gen guns have two letter prefixes and were last made in 1989.
I was basing it off of what a dealer told me a year ago being GEN 1. No GEN stamp on it. I am not even close to your expertise or knowledge when it comes to Glocks, just enjoy collecting and shooting. Was purchased from a dealer Feb of '94. Found warranty card but can't lay hands on actual receipt. Dealer said GEN 1, but if as you say, then it would be GEN 2. Have pics but unable to upload, not tech savy
