I've only made characters for role playing games and some amateur science fiction, but it's true. You put yourself in your creations and there's always a little reflection that someone might spot.
It was amusing... Scary, but amusing when my ex did psych profiles on all of my gaming group (she was/is a Psychologist) and was able to accurately describe pretty much every character each of us played and how we'd react in various circumstances...
