Hawaii's vampire rule has been struck on 2nd and 14th Amendment grounds.
For everyone scoring at home, this is another 14th Amendment incorporation moment.
It's also reminding Hawaii that they're a state and subservient to the US Constitution and there's no legal binding to the spirit of aloha.
Considering how warlike and violent the native Hawaiians were before Kamehameha unified the islands, I have no idea where they got the idea that "the spirit of aloha" was anti-weapon. I'm not even sure how much of the laws of the old Kingdom and Republic of Hawaii have affected present-day Hawaiian law---I am no lawyer myself, but I do know that Louisiana's laws have traces of the Code Napoleon in them still, because that was the law when we bought Louisiana.
