Coming Soon...

Going to talk Willard into letting me take apart his Krag.

Pics of the inner workings of the magazine!

  1. That's part of why I bought mine, to see how that damn thing worked. My brother the engineer was fascinated by it, and agrees with me that one thing that killed the Krag concept was that the magazine was probably a lot more complicated and difficult to manufacture than a box mag.

    1. The magazine being nearly impossible to adapt to clip loading was the main complaint. Followed by frequent rim locking from loading carelessly (like under the stress of taking fire).

Since a rimless round would solve the second complaint, they were looking into it... That led them to find that the single locking lug wasn't enough to hold against the rimless rounds they wanted to adopt.

There's a bit of gun fashion sense going on here too. The reason that they wanted a hotter rimless round was to keep up with the Joneses, and they did have some envy going on from 7x57mm's zippy flat shooting nature compared to the .30-40 in Cuba.
