Florida Black Snake
We have at least two black snakes living under our shed.
I'm a bit bummed by this because I liked the eastern rat snake better. Black snakes are jerks.

Looks like a Black Racer. Racers make poor pets, being nervous and nippy. Rat snakes are more mellow and can often be simply picked up, showing no inclination to bite. When I lived in Florida I never saw one of the black specimens, I always saw the yellow or the corn snake.
ReplyDeleteBlack snake is the local name for the black racer.
DeleteI take it from comment #1 that the Black Racer is non-venomous.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't assume that of any snake here in Oz - particularly brown ones, but the black ones are no picnic either.
From what I hear even cows are venomous in Australia. ;)
DeleteYou guys sure did seem to get more than your share of the meanest animals.
From what I see in the grocery stores, you might be right.
ReplyDeleteApparently even cow JUICE is dangerous, so it is being replaced by almond milk, soy milk, A2 milk, goat milk, etc.
