While $10k might be a fair price for those gaming tables after materials, equipment and labor are accounted for...
Who the heck is the market for them?
The people who are complaining that $300 for the newest release of the three core books for D&D definitely don't have five figures to drop on a table that isn't readily adaptable to other uses.
Of course, there appears to be a cadre of gamers who've casually dropped $5k on a 3D printer to make miniatures and scenery for their dungeon...
I see. I just looked at their website. I don't know how extravagant it gets in the D&D world or similar gaming creations (the sole exception I've seen +$100k pool tables), but what it looks like is very unique style of furniture.
ReplyDeleteIt's not even custom one off since the same table can be bought by anyone with the desire and the simoleons.
But how many in your area would have one? Just you, slick. Therefore unique. Unique can carry a hefty a price tag. That price can be substantiated; there literally is no comparison.
I get how a pool table gets that expensive. A perfectly flat surface that big is difficult. Then keep it flat when you put on the felt. Never mind a means to level it.
DeletePerfectly flat, seamless... Depends on how many decimal places you think you need.
DeleteThen you can't play on a bar table because it's nowhere NEAR that flat and level.
I've made tables with chess boards let in to the top. The in let part of the table top flips so the bottom is now the top. I did the same for a five sided card table. One side for a type of bollards (of which I forget the name) so a very smooth and flat surface. The other side for cards and spilled drinks.
DeleteHydraulic cement is more runny than baby poop and self-leveling. Once cured it is hard and durable. Available in 50# bags. Add water, act fast.
DeleteHow's that cement take to being moved from one house to the next when it's a tabletop?
DeleteMy dad lost an expensive slate table because of a 2" slip when the movers lost their grip on it getting it on a dolly. I'd have thought that slate would have been tougher, but no.
