I am uncertain that having the same person be the director of both the FBI and BATFE is a good idea.
My objections are pretty nebulous, but I cannot help but think they are separate organizations for a reason and separate orgs need separate leadership.
I've been wrong before. I could be wrong now and worrying about nothing.
I hope so.
Closing BATFE won't leave him unemployed.
ReplyDeleteYep, Justin is correct. If the goal is to close down BATF and roll whatever small part that remains useful (likely the crime investigation folks) into the FBI field offices, win-win. Concurrently, re-focus the FBI on INVESTIGATION and actual CRIMES perpetrated against our citizens (not so termed against the "state"), then we all benefit. Mind I don't see any need for expanded SWAT functions in any 3 letter agency. Tell me why the interior department, parks and services, department of edumencation, IRS and several others need SWAT teams or weapons at all?
ReplyDelete1) BATF and FBI agents do not mix well in my experience. Actually FBI agents don't mix well with anyone.
ReplyDelete2) Does he collect two salaries? I'll assume they are both full time jobs.
3) The last thing the FBI is more budget dollars and influence. If you must, roll BATF into Treasury for tax enforcement.
Patel is being put in temporary control of BATFE until Trump's appointee is confirmed. Nothing nefarious to see here.
ReplyDeleteUnless someone is planning on extracting and folding the E forensics into the FBI's Crime Lab, moving the A and T over to non-badged non-sworn Dept. of Commerce employees, and shrinking the F and some of the E into non-badged non-sworn rubber stamping of FFLs and licensed blasters, and remove all rule-making and rule-enforcing abilities from their control, in perpetuity, thereby forcing Congress to do their job, instead of farming out legislation to unelected bureaucrats answerable to no one, and making violations "innocent until proven guilty in a court of law" propositions, instead of "guilty until proven innocent" government inquisitions by kangaroo tribunals.
ReplyDeleteThe idea could even catch on, and put whole agencies out of the rule-making business forever, exactly as the Constitution intended.
IOW, conquer it, and chop it up into three parts, exactly as Caesar did with Gaul.
