Shit I Didn't Notice Before

Tonight I made Harvey stop talking for a second so I could parse the tempo of the bangs to decide if it's gunfire or fireworks.

I realized I've been doing it for years, but this is the first time I was consciously aware I was doing it.

  1. You are not unique in this. Our house is a stone throw from a river, the other side of which is shall we say, of darker complexion. On any given warm night (not even close to the 4th) there are popping sounds coming our way from thataway. Automatically turn down TV sound to do the same thing, tempo and how intense the sound of detonation. Late June to mid July it is mostly (not all) firecrackers, beyond that there are nights that sound 9 miish followed next day or so with a police blotter report of street fights and/or neighbors with new holes in their walls. Sigh!
