The going rate on cargo in Traveller is Cr 1,000 per ton.
That's the plain flat rate for someone hiring you to haul their goods.
A potentially more profitable venture is to buy the goods on speculation and hope to sell them at your destination at a profit and hopefully more than Cr 1,000 per ton!
This is the model presented in Firefly and Serenity is damn-near a Type A in its overt description.
