Yes. Let's blame Tam.
She posted a pic of a Finn NEW Mosin M91 and it reawakened my desire to own a 91...
So I've got a bid in that's sure to lose, but hope is still uncrushed.
It's a Tikka barreled gun with a multi-piece Finnish stock and not a super rare collectable.
Fingers crossed!

Don't know why, but I don't like the Fins. My '91s are Tula and MASSACHUSETTS made!
ReplyDeleteMy Finn was MASSACHUSETTS made.
DeleteSo Weer'd only collects guns from Commie nations...
DeleteThe Finns have a lot more character to me. For some reason the taint of fascism is preferable to the taint of communism. Lots more 91's survived without conversion to 91/30 or shorter in Finland than in the USSR; making them a bit cheaper.
ReplyDeleteThis one I've bid on has a ground down Peter The Great crest, I wanna see who made receiver, but you need to remove the stock to get to the tang markings.
I stumbled into a Kiv.28/30 and that triggered getting a Kiv.39... So a Kiv.91 seems essential.
Both of the Finn Twins have Tula receivers. The Kiv/39 is an 1899 and the Kiv/28-30 a 1915.
DeleteOne reason why I like my Tula and Westinghouse so much, they were both made pre Oktober Revolution. I'm still looking out for a Remington to add to my collection (if you find one send info!)
DeleteOf course I find totalitarian issue weapons being privately owned by libertarian-minded folks to be "Just desserts". I know of a Jewish guy who has a PPK with the Nazi Eagle on it as his carry gun. That there is a thing of beauty!
Hell so many of the first Israeli issue arms were Nazi seizures. They were all defaced, but part of me kind wishes the Jews were defending themselves from all Ilk of antisemitism with antisemitic-marked weapons.
Think you built this rifle to kill Jews? Think again asshole! Think you built this rifle to crush the capitalist devil? Well I bought it surplus for a good price, and looking at my blue book values I'm seeing a good return on investment, Ivan!
Finding a Remington Mosin for sale is easy. Paying for them is a bit harder. Plus for some reason Rems seem to have been ridden so much harder and put away far wetter than NEW guns.
DeleteCurse you, now I want one.
ReplyDeleteNo, don't curse me. Curse Tam. This post was specifically to blame TAM.
