But Thag! .22LR Can Kill A Deer

Let's check the math, again!

You need 20 points to get a death roll from a 10 HP critter.

A shot to the vitals, eyes or skull ignore bullet size modifiers.

Vitals multiplies what makes it through the DR by 3.  Damage to the skull multiplies by 4, but normally gets an additional DR 2.  Damage to the eyes is the same as skull, but without the extra DR.

So...

For vitals:
20/10.5 = 1.90 or 2d.

For skull:
20/14 = 1.43 or 1d+2; but you need to breach that skull so 2d.

For the eyes:

20/14 = 1.43 or 1d+2.

.22 LR from a rifle is 1d+2 pi-, so it will do it for an eye shot with the average hit.

But most shots what kill deer with a .22 are vitals hits from careful shot placement at close range.

Damage of 10 points or more will cause a 10 HP creature to check for consciousness.

You only need 1d to cross that threshold and get a fair chance of the thing falling over unconscious.  Then you stab it with your steely knife to kill the beast!

Any raw damage roll of 4 or more gets that consciousness roll, so for a 1d+2 attack that's a roll of 2 or better on the die; a 5 in 6 chance!

Even more fun is any attack that manages to land 5 damage is a major wound and incurs additional problems for the target such as shock and stunning.  Any hit with 1d+2 to the vitals will do this, the minimum damage is 9!
