While I maintain that the AC people fucked us with our new, up to code, ducts and the lack of air flow into the master bedroom:
Some things they said to alleviate the the problem have helped.
First re-aiming the little blades on the vents so they blow out into the room more along the ceiling than wide open and dumping straight down.
Second was giving more space around the uptake and filter.
Both have improved the overall cooling, but from about 1830 to about an hour after sunset I CANNOT have the door to the bedroom closed. Which is awkward because I have to keep Beeper and Shadow separated. We'd actually be OK if we could leave all the doors open.
A bonus feature of rearranging around the uptake has been Bear returning to being a bed-cat for Harvey and her being able to sleep better.
But I am >< this far from getting a window unit for the bedroom.
When we had the house, her parents came for a weekend and stayed for over two years. They each smoked 4 packs a day. And they didn't listen to us at all.
ReplyDeleteWell, one day the AC died, due to all the nicotine. We bought a window a/c, put it in our bedroom, and stayed comfortable. They were gone in a week.
We kept using the window a/c even after we replaced the main a/c. Was nice to have a very cool room without very cooling the rest of the house.
maybe a couple of those baby dividers stacked on top of each other will keep the cats seperated?... https://www.amazon.com/North-States-Wide-Supergate-Ergo/dp/B01HG7E5R8?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.j7VDqrZCTo79lZYOEBIuCcspzUhYlRmIHF8Wai_eGDSmFOkhnxHslINvu7GjODYPuP8dHczWgrQ4YkcK8Iyce_aG2UE87RjJBy4jj0yeWKEQRMCzmafyPYeC-pk2FmPOJN2IMlzMSb33W0DRPLTFbIUrg7N8Q7kLW4hzDk5t0uikEWa5BXI63wJR2TNFB4D9s6vfE37F2RH0YK6gWouRbSefHK1mGip0CCws_7-SAUytwnvbr0SWCefhh3leeC3Mop1-T9C9oatDcCDHLCoVhexcPJ2fwoBmW0dsIx8E3SU.M7P1Mn5WVU5ieYosCP26OP51OkXPpomYM-e1eAW-bxY&dib_tag=se&keywords=Child%2BSafety%2BRoom%2BDivider&qid=1753145532&sr=8-23&th=1 ...panzer guy...sorry for the long link...
ReplyDeleteThat's actually a really good idea! I might just order me a couple.
DeleteWe'd been thinking about making a frame for chicken wire and this seems a bit smarter.
As an experiment, get a small table fan and make a plenum to place it in front of the bedroom duct to suck the cool air through the duct. This might be enough to make the room usable with out having to buy and operate a window unit. On the other fronts an infrared thermometer maybe able to locate where the back up in the duct system actually is. Measure and record the duct outside temps. A big drop in one place is where the problem is occurring.
ReplyDeleteSpin
Brand new ducts. They're not leaking or backed up.
DeleteThe problem is with the lower "balanced" flow instead of forced flow, the air in the master bedroom doesn't leave with the door closed. If I can leave the door open, it's fine. But Beeper and Shadow can't get along.
