Two things about the theory that the yutes hit the manhole casement with their car.
1. To hit it at the angle of the drag marks, they would have had to start inside the fenced-in yard of the house to the south of the empty lot AND gone through a telephone pole.
2. There are no tire tracks in the grass around the casement.
