I have misophonia.
Shit you don't notice drives me batty.
Watching videos or listening to some podcasters is like this for me:
"The GASP thing we're talking about GASP here SMACK is the sounds GASP made by them trying SMACK to GASP breathe and seem to SMACK always have sucked their GASP cheeks in when they GASP pause dramatically GASP between sentences."
The mic picks this up because they put in the wrong place or have the settings wrong.
This is not the least reason that I prefer to read rather than listen to someone drone on about a topic.
Another, informative, YouTuber, Mark Smith of the Four Boxes Diner's delivery drives me nuts as well.
He will emPHAAAAAAAAsize a word in his repetitious style and it's like nails on a chalkboard for me.
Ironically, actual nails on a chalkboard doesn't trigger me at all.

Some of the video links there have died, but the lesson is timeless: learn to do sound for your video correctly, because video is 80% sound. Movies only took off when they invented talkies.
Proof: People watched an entire Blair Witch shaky-cam movie, and it was a huge hit despite the ass-tastic video.
But they'll hang up on a crappy phone connection in 3 seconds. Every single time.
Don't even get me started on the guys with five minutes of content crammed into half an hour.
DeletePS: One of the comments at the link you gave complained about a crow's foot at the end of the torque wrench for AR assembly: It's accounted for in the 23&P manual. Incorrect for using a socket, just fine for using the barrel wrench.
Me, I don't have misophonia, but I do react REALLY badly to being startled. This has offended some people: "How DARE YOU jump and flinch when I come up from behind you, out of your line of sight, and grab/touch you?" I have ideas about how to cure this sort of behavior, but there are these tiresome laws....
ReplyDeleteBad speaking, bad music, bad background sounds all are most of the reason I only watch yousetubs videos with sound off and the closed captions on. And often speed up the action to between 1.5 and 2 x speeds.
ReplyDeleteIf technically bad videos could get down-checked off of YouTube, and good ones garnered awards and prizes, it would help immensely.
