Last night I heard a lot of thumping outside.
It sounded like repeated slamming of car doors and that got me wondering which of my neighbors was having a domestic.
Peeking out the window of the front door I could see two cars parked straight across from my house, but no obvious activity.
So I went around to the side of the house and looked out my gate for a wider view and saw four teens moving the manhole cover casement from the sewer.
They fled before I was even done giving my information to the 911 operator.
What I saw after they left:
When the deputies arrived they both did a, "What the Hell?"
I have no idea WHY they'd do this at all.
They got it back over the hole for the sewer and I expect the county to have someone out Monday to fix it for reals.

Either trying to get rid of hazmat, trying to make a video of exploding methane or most likely securing high risk/low reward scrap metal.
ReplyDeletethey hit it with a low car looks like...maybe?...panzer guy
ReplyDeleteThey dragged it into the street by hand from what it looks. To hit it with a car in the direction of the scrapes means they'd have to drive through a fence and telephone pole.
DeleteFlorida, man.
ReplyDeleteForget it Jake, it's Florida.
DeleteUp around here the scrapyards are paying about 12 cents/lb for iron/steel. Copper and aluminum are the valuable items so these kids are putting in a lot of work for low return. Stupid is as stupid does.
ReplyDeleteAmateur criminals are not noted for high intellect. As far as the value, most scrapyards will notice the labeling molded into the metal and either outright refuse to buy it or further and delay long enough for the constabulary to arrive and handle the situation. Like I said, low intellect; and also low impulse control.
