Alone

At the time of this writing, I believe that Florida is the only state with "constitutional carry" which also bans open carry.

Odd that.

I wonder how the other 27 states are keeping the blood from flooding the streets and how the cops manage to function with open carry making their jobs harder.

  1. It is kinda like how here in Texas we're the only state in the area that requires front license plates (except for antique registered cards of which I have two, where they only give you a rear plate). Every other year when the legislature meets a bill is introduced to get rid of the front plate and every time DPS's lobbiests cry about how they can't do their job without the front plate. Despite the fact that we've got tons of cars from Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas and Louisiana driving around in Texas at any given time with no front plate. And the aforementioned antique vehicles too. So one time I was at an event and one of DPS's lobbiests was there so I asked him "So, why are the LEOs in all the surrounding states more capable than Texas LEOs that they can do their jobs without front license plates". Needless to say, they got pretty pissed off at that... Because I think it struck a nerve. They really couldn't provide any coherent explanation, just denials...

So about open carry... When we got it here, the predictions were that we'd have shootouts daily over parking spaces, etc. Somehow it hasn't happened. Concealed carry is common, open carry, even though it is allowed is not. You see it every once in a while but it honestly it basically has nothing at all to do with shootings. People tend not to piss off people they know are carrying. For that matter, legal concealed carry is rarely ever involved with any shootings either, other than the occasional defensive shooting. Almost all cases of firearms being used illegally the person is carrying illegally to begin with, usually because they are a prohibited person, often already having felony convictions or being completely undocumented and here illegally. Of course libtards almost never follow through on prosecuting those people, which is the real reason there is as much violence as there is. Get the criminals off the streets and the illegals out of the country and the problem will mostly go away. What little internal problems we have with people not already offenders will be much smaller and more likely that LEO will be able to manage with the resources available to them.

For that matter, the license plate thing is largely the same. Most of the problem isn't because of lack of front plates or aided by them when they are there. The real problem is we have so many unlicensed vehicles and drivers on the roads. Fake and expired or stolen plates and even worse the temp paper plates are a huge issue. Because illegals can't get driver's licenses anymore (due to the "Real ID" act, part of the PATRIOT 2 laws, they usually don't bother to get insurance or register their vehicles either. The problem is so rampant in many areas and the left wing political pressure in urban areas means there is little enforcement.

    1. Here in Texas we just hose the blood off the sidewalks every morning and the cops pistol whip all open carriers. Random distribution ensures that they’ll get an occasional criminal.

Really, though, in 8 years of legal open carry, I think I’ve seen maybe a dozen open carriers in total. The biggest effect has been folks being a little more cavalier about printing. It’s been a non-event.
As for constitutional carry, the local paper’s jail log column still reveals plenty of folks being arrested for illegal possession of a firearm, so apparently the cops are still able to sort out the bad guys without getting kilt in the streetz.

    2. A lot of libtards seem to think that consitutional carry and open carry mean that everyone will be able to carry whenever, wherever and however they want. They think it means that prohibited people can carry. Well, they can, but it doesn't make it legal for them to be in posession let alone carrying. It changes nothing from how things were. They also thinks it means people can now just point firearms and threaten people. But it didn't change anything there either. You still aren't allowed to carry "in a manner calculated to cause alarm".

So what did change? Well, now anyone who can legally own can legally carry. Guess what though. Most of the people who didn't bother to get permits before don't bother carrying now. Maybe a few? I know some people didn't bother renewing when the law changed. But did anything really change? No, not really. Most of those who had permits before are renewing. People are still taking the classes and getting permits even though they don't technicallly "need them" just to carry. Having the permit still offers some advantages, like protection from the Federal GFSZA and not having to wait for a background check when purchasing. And because, while not a "get out of jail free" card, it does in fact go a long way with a lot of LEOs to say, "hey, this is a responsible person".

As for open carry. Here in Texas it has never been illegal to openly carry a long gun, but still you rarely see it and mostly in rural areas where you'd expect. Years ago carry in gun racks in pickups was common but it isn't anymore due to vehicle break ins and thefts. Open carry of handguns is rare I believe mostly because it still requires them to be holstered properly (no "Mezkin Carry") and a lot of people prefer to maintain a lower profile. I do appreciate the option to openly carry because there have occasionally been times when I have wanted to say "don't mess with me". Such times make carrying something big and obvious desireable. .45 or .44 Mag. Funny how they get a lot more respect than a "wonder nine".

I've been here in Texas for a long time now, and I get that libtards from the coast actually seem to believe that it's still the "wild west" with shootouts on main street daily (which actually only happened in dime novels even back in the day). And that cops here do things that would make the Gestapo blush. The truth is, when it comes to it, I've had far more negative encounters with LEOs in northern states than I ever have here. Of course I was younger back then and Police tend not to hassle old geezers like me as much as mouthy young punks like I once was. It also helps that really we don't have nearly as many stupid BS laws here (although still some like everywhere).

  2. I've live in states with legal open carry for 15 years now and I've only seen it a handful of times.
Most recently I've seen dirty dusty cowboys in town with hats, bandannas, spurs, and revolvers.
I open carry when I'm heading into the desert and at stops in town on the way nobody has batted an eye at it.
Of course, you know you live in a tolerant county when people open carry in the courthouse...
it helps that my local courthouse is the only one I've even been to with no security or screening - people walk in and out any of several doors as they want to. It's refreshing to see a county that trusts its citizens.
