"Kamikaze Drone" is the new hotness.
Hmmmmm. A pilotless, self-guided vehicle that either crashes into or explodes near a target?
Didn't we already have a word for this?
I believe it was "missile."
A pilotless, remote-controlled vehicle that either crashes into or explodes near a target?
That used to be called a guided bomb/missile.
Does this mean the old Bullpup, HOBOS and Walleye need to be redesignated?
Stupid media building up hype, same jackwagons that brought us 'assault rifles' and 'extended (meaning more than 9 rounds) magazines.
ReplyDeleteUsually, people hear "missile" and think "rocket-propelled." Drones are propelled, AIUI, by propellers.
ReplyDeleteEh, difference between a kamikaze drone and a missile / guided munition is that said drone is not expended when launched - if it doesn't find a target it is recoverable and can be used again later. Talked a lot about the opportunities of such weapons, and spitballed tactics/strategies of employment. Granted, we mostly considered use against logistic lines and semi-static targets, not individually targeting tanks and combatants.
ReplyDeleteThat's at least an explanation! Thank you for that.
