OK, TikTok, why are murderers, sex offenders, and pedos censored with a little asterisk?
It's not so we can't figure out the word.
It's not like those three words are like the dread CENSORED.
Are you worried that murderers, sex offenders and pedos will be offended by being associated with illegal aliens? If that's so, why aren't gang members, human traffickers, fentanyl dealers and drunk driver's censored with a little '*'?

Ooh! I know this one!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I haven't put forth the effort to find out if the belief is correct, but it is widely believed that YouTube has a long list of words to censor, and that the censor bot is only paying attention to exact matches.
On further thought, I remember that this absolutely was true at one time. I forget the timeframe, but somebody decided to put the word "gun" on the Google search engine's (remember, run by the same people) censor bot's hit list. Obvious aliases, such as "gnu" were allowed to pass uncensored to the fuzzy match stage. This led to the absurd spectacle, which I confirmed for myself, that product searches for "gun" revealed nothing, but "gnu" found tons of guns. I assume that loophole wouldn't have worked if lots of people were trying to sell those animals, but I made no attempt to test that.
While this was live, I tried to use it to break somebody of their "Vox Google, Vox Dei" delusion, which sort of worked: that was the first time he didn't try to refute me with a Google search. Ironic, since that was also the first time that it would have been a legitimate argument.
I suspect it's trying to poison search results.
ReplyDeleteIt's as, as others have said, because at one time, YouTube, Google and Twitter actively censored words like 'porn,' 'gun,' 'sex,' 'pedo' or 'pedophile' (because all three wanted people to start using 'minor attracted person') and other bullscattery. ,'
ReplyDeleteWhich is why we have 'pron' or 'p*rn,' 'pew-pew' instead of 'gun' and asterisks being used for vowels in other words.
I have asked this question before. It has become common to see rape, murder, sex, and other words spelled with an asterisk. Why? It is so transparent that a 3rd grader can decipher.
ReplyDeleteWould s*x yield a different word search than sex? Or, none at all.
