Missing M's

The knives and bayonets thing brings up more missing M numbers.

What were the M1 and M2 fighting knives?

What happened to the M8?

It seems like there should be a list somewhere, but it's not online as far as I've been able to find.

  1. I guess the M1 Bayonet Knife patterned after the M1905 Bayonet from the Springfield 03 might count as the M1 Fighting Knife, though at 10" it's (the M1) is more a dagger than a 'knife,' and the original M1905 at 16" is a tad long for 'knife' work.

The Camillus M2 Fighting Knife, from WWII era, looks like a short bad copy of the KABAR, more like a USAF Survival Knife, but more lame.
