Buck-horn sights and I don't get along.
Because my rifle was made in 1951, the hole spacing on the tang is incorrect for the sights they still make.
Vintage sights go for $100+.
Every once and a while, one appears to be slipping through the cracks...
Always when I am broke or saving for something else.
Is that all brass or is it just the lighting?

Go for it, they don't appear frequently.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any friends who have garage machine shops that can whip out a mod to an available sight? If so, you may consider that and get a non-appropriate part and modify it. If it will fit, that is.
ReplyDeleteMay just end up having to drill a new hole in the mounting plate if there's enough room. Or some sort of adapter plate something-something. I am sure your fertile mind can think of at least 3 ways to do it, maybe 4 if you use Legos...
I know, you don't want to futz something up, but sometimes fuzting is what is needed.
New made Marbles sights say they're 1-1/8" hole spacing.
DeleteI'm measuring 1.130" center to center.
I've seen sights talking about both distances.
Well, find a supplier that will allow you to return it if it doesn't fit. And go for it. Unless, of course, you find a vintage sight that doesn't look like it has lived under someone's armpit for 40 years or so.

Slightly battered, yes. Looking like it has lived homeless on the streets of Los(t) Angeles for 10 years or more, naaaahhhhh. Especially if it looks like it's missing parts or has too many dings and surface malformations.
