I read the breathless headline that unemployment numbers were up.
Then I saw that new jobs had exceeded expectations.
Did you know that this is actually consistent?
You are not unemployed unless you are looking for work.
So, if there's more folks who have confidence that the economy has recovered sufficiently for them to look for work than before, then unemployment numbers will spike as these people check the "no job, looking for work" response on the survey instead of "no job, not seeking employment" box.
More people looking for work is a sign of confidence in the recovery.
