It Occurs

It hit me today, after The Boy's doctor's office called at 0800 that the main reason us night people resent morning people is not that they call at 0800.

It's that morning people are spent by the time us night people are functioning.

We call after lunch and they're just done for the day.

The resentment comes from the expectation that everyone be ready to respond when THEY are ready, but they don't have to respond when WE'RE ready.

When you combine this with the realization that Government hires morning people almost exclusively...

  1. Oh, I am SO with you on that! One reason I didn't do better in college was because they insisted on scheduling the classes I needed at eight o'clock in the morning. Between being a night owl myself and having a roommate who insisted on having his friends over late into the night, not to mention a mother who called me and expected me to answer right at 2301 hours, and then expected me to stand there and listen to her haranguing me for three-quarters of an hour or more, I was often just a zombie when those classes were in session.
