There's two things that people (kooks, really) claim never happened that I am assured did happen by a simple test.
The Soviet Union agreed that they happened.
Those two things are the Moon landings and The Holocaust.
Why is the USSR agreeing they happened such a good barometer?
Because it was in their interest to show that they didn't happen.
I noticed, recently, that we're losing the significance of this as the memory of the Cold War is increasingly in us aging Gen-X minds.
I agree about the Holocaust, but the Soviets HATED the Turd Reich, with damned good reasons. Any stick at all was good enough to beat the Nats-ees with and this was a golden opportunity to help Boobus Americanus forget little boo-boos like the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, the rape of the Baltic States, the stab-in-the-back they gave Poland in 1939, the way they let the Warsaw Uprising twist in the wind when they were just across the river, and a few other little blots on their escutcheon.
