The American Rifleman reports that Ruger is discontinuing the following:
Revolvers: LCR, SP101, GP100, Redhawk, Super Redhawk, Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Single-Series, Vaquero and Bearcat.
Semi-Auto Pistols: SR1911, PC Charger, LC Charger
Rifles: LC Carbine, PC Carbine, No. 1, 77-series, Hawkeye and Ruger Precision.
The one that caught my eye was the Ruger Precision Rifle. Their explanation said, "In many cases, we see opportunities to bring them forward through new designs, improved features and modern manufacturing methods." (Emphasis added) I thought that was a new design, and the internet says it was introduced in 2015. 2015 isn't modern enough? Did they just take a really old design, make it look slightly different and sell it as a new product?
ReplyDeleteA couple gun shops are commenting on Facebook that the guns being discontinued are the slow to no sellers.
DeleteI wonder if anyone has asked WHY they're slow to no sellers? And is that being addressed? At the risk of pissing people off, I have to ask if anybody else has noticed the homogenous nature of American products? That unpleasant phenomena has infiltrated the firearms industry also... A shoulder holster full of 1911 stands out. But a lot of the plastic striker fired 9mm handguns cannot be distinguished from each other at a glance. I truly hope that what they replace these models with are worthy of becoming family heirlooms.
ReplyDeleteI think the heirloom quality thing slows sales a lot of the time. Why do I need a new one when the old one Dad gave me works like new?
DeleteWinchester found this out the hard way. Then Remington siphoned off the new customers with a much cheaper rifle, the Model 700.
