Meh

I finally saw Black Panther now that it's out on home media.

Mostly entertaining, but underwhelming to me.

I just didn't have the sympathy for Erik Killmonger that everyone (reviewers) said I was going to have.

The theme of "you're rich and powerful so you MUST help the poor and powerless overthrow dey oppressors" that kept getting repeated is only resonate with someone who is empathetic with SJW norms.

The people making these films keep forgetting there's comics that explain, in depth, why Wakanda cut themselves off from the world and hid, not just from the colonial powers, but the rest of Africa.

They are a deeply bigoted people, in fact.  It's in the books!

But they've also had their worldview supported and reinforced by observing what happens in the rest of Africa.  And the world.

The reforms that T'Challa brings are to make the place more Swiss-like.  They begin to open up to the rest of the world, while keeping it at arms length.

At one point there's even a discussion about being proactive and doing what Killmonger advocated in the movie.

King T'Challa is reminded that it took them hundreds of years to reach their present level of advanced technology; Howard and Tony Stark matched them in less than 40.  Tony is far from alone in making super-advanced tech, never mind how much extraterrestrial tech is floating around The Marvel Universe.  Even Canada has super-tech on par with Wakanda from James McDonald Hudson, Roger Bochs and Madison Jeffries.

The last thing Wakanda needs is to present a clear and present danger to the rest of the world.
