Paging Technomad

Reader and meatspace friend Technomad is a fan of autogyros and Stanley Steamers.

The Stanley was actually quite influential, just not on the world of cars...

  1. Steam works great and was more technologically advanced than internal combustion until, oh, about WWII. Advances in precision machinery, new technologies and such allowed the IC of all varieties to advance to the modern state they are all at.

    But, twist the tech around, use the same advanced tech applied to steam power and...

  2. Thanks! I enjoyed the video, and learned some interesting things. My brother, the engineer, would probably also enjoy it. I'll have to point him toward it.

    Speaking of my brother---when I was out in California (if you'll pardon the expression) last Christmas season, John, Nicholas (my nephew) and I were at Yanks Air Museum at the Chino airport. (They've got another aviation museum there that we'd seen before, called Planes of Fame, but I'd only found out about Yanks in 2021, thanks to Google.) We were outside looking at the boneyard of planes they're going to restore, and a gyrocopter came buzzing overhead! That was the first one I've ever seen flying in real life; I've seen autogiros in museums, but never saw one in flight.
