Willard's Model 27 had developed a bound cylinder.
Armed only with sewing machine oil, he was unable to free it.
PB Blaster, on the other hand, with a gentle tap from a nylon hammer got it rolling again.
I am not sure it rusted or not. The mung is the right color, but there's no pitting or roughness of the bearing surfaces.
oxidized lube or cosmoline with dust is likely the culprit.
ReplyDeleteThat'd be my guess too. A lot of times gunpowder residue and oxidized lube can turn into a pasty mess. Some lubes are already brownish, but it wouldn't take much rust at all to make them more so.
DeleteYup. The heat also accelerates the process. Wish I were in a warmer p;ace. We lack ranges here and i am waaay out of practice.
ReplyDeleteCheck if the ejector rod is tight,it has left hand threads. If it loosens the rod will bind at the front catch.
ReplyDeleteIt was tight.
DeleteIt was bound up from dried mung in the axis hole.
