Wait Back Up

The last thing I need before I attempt to install this upgraded stereo box is a back-up camera.

I have some power and wiring questions and one is specific to the unit.

Will the camera powering on switch the display over, or do I need to rig a trigger to the head unit?

If it's the former, then the time-honored method of tapping into the back-up light will work just fine.  If the latter...  Uh...

  1. Could you go to the radio or backup camera schematic and see the input to the radio? Is the input there? Does it come from the camera or bcm? Is the harness connector in the truck area for the camera option, if so you could acquire the factory camera.

    1. My service manual makes no mention of the back-up camera, so no diagrams or schematics.

I have an RCA connection at the radio, but no idea if it needs more inputs than already exist.

The factory camera is rare as hens teeth.

    2. My bad I thought yours was a newer model. I went back through your posts and determined it's a2011 model? So is your new radio aftermarket? Does it have a display that would work with a camera? You mention an RCA lead, yellow for video? If so probably triggers with reverse lamps. In your searches have you found www.gmupfitter.com,PDF Chevrolet municipal vehicles, page 25 wx7 wiring diagram. Apparently there's a 60 inch lead set coiled in the r/f foot well to wire in the speakers.Sorry it's hard to help from South Carolina.

    3. My new radio is from a company in Australia who're salvaging, restoring and unlocking OEM Holden radios.

Not sure what car it came out of Down Under, but it's compatible with my car.

I expect I will be able to see all the wiring when I get the dash apart and drop the headliner to wire the XM antenna.

I've found some wiring abandoned in place already. I'll be removing as much as I think I safely can.

Don't think you're not helping even at this distance.

  2. Can you give us the part number for the OEM camera?

I should be able to swing by some Holden wreckers (salvage yards) here in west Oz in the next week or so to see what's available.

    1. 92288994 is what I am told, but then you also have to find the entire harness from trunk to dash.

Look for Commodores and Statesman with it.
