Damn You Magpul!

Ever since Marv got his Kel-Tec Sub-2000 I've had a mild hankering for a pistol caliber carbine of my own.

An SBR Colt AR 9mm leading the wish list for no solid technical reason.

Ruger's PC-9 has some appeal because I already stock Glock 17 magazines for the Glock 17 and 45.

It was simply too damn ugly to commit to.

Magpul has announced a back-packer stock set for the PC-9 which helps a lot in the looks department and lets you stow your barrel in the buttstock.

TFB article on that.

It's the silly 50 round drum that's giving the lust particles an extra shove.

There's things I need more than a PCC and need before it.

If I say it enough, will it work?

  1. I wouldn't mind a lever action in .45 Colt, but I haven't been able to do much shooting for some years now.

  2. I agree with Beans too, that is a nifty little unit for the 9mm semi. Dad burn it, now you got the worm in my mind turning too ...

  3. I have a High Point carbine in .40 S&W. There are probably a lot better choices in the category. It does work, and isn't nearly as klunky as High Point's pistols. Something that used Glock mags would probably be a lot more convenient. It came with several mags and High Point mags are cheap and readily available so it isn't that big of a deal. It wasn't something I sought out to buy, I bought it from a friend who needed the money, and like a lot of things once I've got something I rarely ever get rid of it. If I was desperate for $$$, this one would go before a lot of other things did though.

    1. Willard's got a Marlin Camp Carbine in 9mm. He says as long as you can readily get mags, or already have a supply, then it's just fine. Since the Camp takes S&W 59 mags, and he's got lots...

    2. Marlin obviously has a much better reputation than High Point. A 9mm carbine is probably more generally useful than .40 S&W, but .40 S&W is not a bad cartridge. .357 Sig would be pretty interesting too, but I've never seen a carbine chambered for that. Oh, I also forgot to mention that I've got a 9mm AR. That's sort of interesting. It uses Colt style mags or modified STEN.

  4. No it will not it will gnaw on your mind until you give in i have personal experience with that gun demon at least twice now. first was a 3 inch barreled 44 magnum. Saw it at the rod and gun club on Wednesday and went down on Friday and put it on layaway. Driven by my supervisor and his family. Second was a a Daniel Defense Pistol mark 18 Why would i need that Gnaw Gnaw gnaw (they banned bump stocks these will be next) better pick one up. Saw the Daniel Defense and it happened again. Is anyone else afraid to pick up a gun because if you do it wants to go home with you. I have to be very careful at gun shows and gun stores. LOLOLOL

    2. Sabre22, You are a better man than me. I have had a Lew Horton 3" .44 Spcl. for nearly 20 years and that is fun to shoot. I can't imagine the commotion of a .44 Magnum in such a barrel length.

I do take your point, once you have an good idea in your mind, it is hard to kill.

  5. I will vouch for the hi-point line of carbines.

  6. If you want cheap and decent, go for Hi Point. I've had one for years and put alot of rounds through it.
I've shot both the keltec sub2k and the Ruger PC-9; the PC 9 is a scaled up 10/22 - it feels much more comfortable and accurate than the sub2k. It has a scope rail, the newer ones all have threaded barrels, the take down doesn't take much more space to store.

If I were you, I'd get either the Hi Point (for low cost) or the PC-9 since it's good.
