The outbreak of novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China has 1,422 confirmed infections and 42 deaths.
While that seems scary, that's just 3% fatality and it's hardly anyone has caught it.
Compare this with Spanish Flu that had a 10-20% fatality rate or Ebola which averages 50%.
For a wonder, it looks like China is actually sealing up the areas where the infection is concentrated.
I don't think we need to panic yet.

I need to scary up your death stat for that bug a bit. The disease takes several days to kill off it's victims, but the current infected count is "today" and counts day 1 infected the same as say 8 infected.
ReplyDeleteThe most accurate death rate count is after its over and they can say 10k got infected, 500 died and 9500 recovered. The closest we can get in process of it spreading is look at the infection rate several days ago and compare that to the dead count today to take into account the time the disease takes to kill a host. 4-5 days ago they were saying approximately 500 infected. 42 out of 1300 is ugly, 42 out of 500 is downright nasty.
It's probably a lot worse, I was just reading the Chinese are likely lying about how many have been infected, and by extension, how many have died.
DeleteCommunist China has always lied about the number of deaths from plagues and influenzas that they have unleashed upon the world.
DeleteSARS.. still waiting on the actual death toll from that one.
Swine Flu in the late 70's... again, still waiting on actual, real records on illness and death.
Same with this latest one.
They won't tell us. They won't admit it amongst themselves.
What is telling is they are trying, desperately, to quarantine 100+ million people? You don't quarantine that many unless there's something truly horrid going on.
It's like reading John Ringo's "The Last Centurion" all over again.
I estimate only a week or two before we hear of widespread desertions by their military. When that happens, end times begin.
I have also seen reports about false reporting on both deaths and total infected.
DeleteThey lied like crazy about SARS and nothing additionally bad happened, no reason to expect anything different now.
Fingers... eyes, legs, arms... CROSSED.
DeleteThey've started quarantine lockdown of Beijing. Friggin Beijing!
DeleteAnd there are docs screaming about how bad it is. Chinese docs, from Wuhan.
Got a baaaaad feeling about this.
Hopefully it will be a repeat of the SARS everywhere else/MARS in the US thing. Seems if you apply late 20th Century medical science to SARS, pronto, from fluid replacement to breathing treatments, SARS that is Serious in China, Britain, Canada, Europe... was, with the US's 'crappy' health care system, only Moderately Acute. No deaths here. Deaths everywhere else.
But... yeah... The Red Chinese have never openly stated before that they were quarantining large sections of their country, or their capital city.
Too little, too late.
Internet speculation and analysis is leading me to suspect that this has been going on for a few months in the small towns and farms, and is now moving into the cities.
Bats.... and the snakes that eat the bats... Yay. See, this is what they get for eating organic...
