Burning Ring Of LED

"Don't I have a ring-light around here someplace?"

I do!

It was entirely unsuitable for use with the SX20 because the SX20 needed to be so close to the subject that the center of the light was gone being occluded by the adapter ring.

Same settings as before, but with the ring light attached.

Just the 14-45mm lens.

f/8.0, 1/125", ISO 100
10mm extender:

f.8.0, 1/125", ISO 100
16mm extender:

f/7.1, 1/100", ISO 100
Both extenders:

f/6.3, 1/80", ISO 125

  1. They're all better, but I like the 16mm extender alone.

It varies with the lens, but most tend to be their sharpest around f8 to f11. As always, the bigger number gives a bigger depth of field (fll is better than f8). When the aperture gets too small (more like f22 instead of f11 or 16), they tend to get less sharp again.

I like big apertures, too. The lens I use most is f2.8 zoom, but when doing small macros, close ups and almost all of my shop pictures, I stay around f11.

    1. The 16mm extender appears to be very close to the same images as the SX20 was taking. I was fairly content with them.

Thank you for all your helpful advice! I might not have implemented it, but I am working that way.

    2. Glad it was useful for you.

You have to learn what you like, after all, and that will probably vary between use. Still, if I know anything that will help the learning curve, I'm happy to pass it along.
