Manually Not Macro

With autofocus on, the 15-45mm lens will not take a picture closer than this:






With manual focus, I get get in just a teeny bit more...

...and have it be slightly out of focus!

It looked great on the viewfinder, but on a monitor...

There's much about this camera that's entirely familiar because I've been using the Canon Powershots for more than a decade and have absorbed Canon's way of doing things.

I am sure they set things up so that it was easy for people to move up the product chain.
