I can agree with this.
ReplyDeleteExcept, was his death murder? A heart attack, unnoticed by the police as they were dealing with a volatile scene, isn't murder. Negligent manslaughter maybe.
ReplyDeleteAnd the knee across the neck and shoulders? It is a recognized hold down used by many LEO agencies and the current military, and is also taught as a non-lethal hold in many self-defense schools.
Yes, combining that hold with a heart attack and rabid drug use probably wasn't the best thing to do. But... dangit, the officers struggled with him, he resisted, he resisted hard, he had a heart attack and croaked. Bad on the cops for not noticing he was dead, yes, but...
Now, where was all the looting, pillaging, burning, murder, over what Mohammed Noor did to Justine Damond? Where Noor fired without any announcing of 'Stop' or 'Hold' or 'Freeze' or anything. Did he get fired and arrested within 48 hours? Or his buddy who lied to the agency?
Funny, if Noor had been arrested and fired within 48 hours, guess what 'muh diversity crowd' would have done? If you said 'looting, pillaging, burning and murder' you would be very correct.

DeleteThe gist of comments I'm seeing from normally pro-Cop YouTubers is that once you have them cuffed they are your responsibility.
DeleteWhile the knee slipped too far up and onto the neck was not the proximate cause of death, the officers not even looking down to see why the struggling had stopped is a likely contributor to Mr Floyd's demise.
And the court and jury will decide on it.
The expectation when Mr Floyd died was that the department would do nothing, again.
That the officer in question was quickly fired and then charged fairly quickly after that is not the norm for Minneapolis' cop shop.
