While the G8 headlight switch granted functionality to the fog lights, the red back lighting bothered me.
Marv, being a deft hand with a soldering iron and knowing what resistors to substitute, changed the LED's on a second switch thusly:
Now it looks much more like a Chevy switch!
Bonus points if you know why the red and green lights are the way they are.

ReplyDeleteWell, I know that is the cluster lighting dimmer switch and red is diminish while green is increase, but as to why the color scheme, no clue other than to differentiate so you don't need to see the + and - symbols. Have a suspicion you are going to tell me that it comes from Dot Mil tanker conventions ;-). I thought they put braille on the switches anyway, yannow, for blind drivers.
ReplyDeleteRed for port and green for starboard is why.
DeleteWhen I got the LEDs for Marv to use it was cheaper to buy the 500 pack with 20 of every color than 5 white ones as needed.
So I got whimsical with the dimmer buttons.
Well darn!. As an old navy guy I should have known that, but was focused strictly on automotive thinking or lack thereof. Good on ya. I still remember the mnemonics, Red Right Returning/Green Going for the channel buoys that marked the route in and out of harbor. Yes, port and starboard but then the ditty is harder to remember.
