Something interesting about diving into American history and the Native American is how often the phrase... "History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes." ...matters.
I am reading how it was wrong (and racist) for us to force the American Indian to not use their own language, to make them feel ashamed for being Indian and to force them out of their lands.
But it's A-OK! to force white Americans to not use their own language, to make them feel ashamed for being white and to force them out of their own houses and businesses.
I'll give you idiots an honest listen once you stop being hypocrites about everything you talk about.
Bonus History Lesson! The American Indian didn't experience these things until they'd lost the war. White America has not yet begun fighting the war.
Western civ and liberal democracies tend to be reluctant to start this kind of war because it so often leads to genocide.
Not once has western (read white if you must) civilization embarked on such a war and lost. Not one time.
It's gotten bored with victory and taken its toys and gone home, but it's never lost.
Remember, we're not fighting a war with you yet. Be careful what you wish for when you poke the sleeping dragon.
My dad, a Cajun from Vermillion Parish, LA, wasn't allowed BY GOVERNMENT DECREE to learn French in school or speak Cajun French at school or at any local, state or federal government facility.

So how come my family had to learn the English but everyone else doesn't have to?
The point being that it's racist oppression to do this to Indians with the same people saying it's OK to do it to white people.
DeleteI'm OK with mandating that gubmint only be conducted in English and spreading the teaching of it far and wide. Don't learn it, fine, be at a massive disadvantage when dealing with the gubmint.
I'm OK with forbidding government to teach other languages and if you want someone to learn English you don't let them speak anything else at school.
But I'm not OK with forbidding them to learn furrin gibberish from their parents or using that language at home if they'd like.
We did try to forbid Indians from using any of their own languages anywhere and attempted to eradicate their culture and cultural memories. Plus try to make them feel ashamed they were born as they were.
Even us greasy half WOP half Scot mongrels didn't get that shaft.
What's happening today is an attempt to make white people feel shame for actions they had no hand in merely because we were born as we are.
They're warping the language to try to claim anything we say is racist.
They're saying it's OK to commit trespass, arson and burglary because reparations?

DeleteBack when the local, state and fed govs were concerned with the safety of the US of A, they (the governments) did things to ensure the safety of the nation, like, well, require English only. Which screwed a bunch of Frogs, Krauts, Eyeties, etc. They did the same thing to ethnic minorities they did to the AmerInds. No native language schools, no separate world, adhere to American Law and Morals first, past second. And for the most part the early waves of ethnic minorities, including Irish et al, all got this and bent their past ways to fit the new ways.
In a lot of Cajun communities, the local/state/fed gov did forbid learning the old ways (thanks to many of FDR era bureaucrats attacking these pockets. And it worked, wiping out a lot of Cajuninity, until the Cajuns realized what was going on and fought back.
Yes, what happened to the Amerinds sucks rocks. Sucks totally rocks. (But, well, they lost, bigly.)
Now the whole white shaming bullshit is just that. Bullshit. Don't like white people? I challenge these white shamers to divest themselves of all things produced, invented, thought up, created and touched by white people.
And it is not okay to trespass, arson, burgle, assault, murder because reparations that were paid off to so many so long ago.

Tired of the peacefully fucked up nation we were before and during the Bush II years suddenly become the Nation of Racists during Barky the Lightbringer's reign of terror. The move for segregated campuses and graduations and dining halls and race-specific stores and all of that crap that happened magically from 2009 on. So very tired of it all. I hate what has been openly and secretly done to my nation, and yet no matter how much I talk to 'normals' about it, somehow I'm the bad person?
What we did to the Indians (take their children and teach them our ways) was about what the Indians themselves did to defeated tribes. In the 1860s, the Sioux were worried about the whites; they knew the whites were coming, so the Sioux wanted to move west. Unfortunately, the Crow (Absaroka) were in the way. The Sioux planned to wipe out the Crow and take their lands. Their plan was to kill the adult males and older boys, "Marry" the widows, and raise the orphaned children as Sioux. Unfortunately for them, the Crow got wind of their little plan and were waiting for them when they came.
ReplyDeleteAnd pointing out to someone who howls about how the Black Hills were "sacred ground" to the Sioux that the Sioux had taken them from the Cheyenne (IIRC) in about 1770 or so makes their heads melt.
