Dateline 1945: Expect morning temperatures in Nagasaki to be significantly cooler...
It's been 75 years since someone pissed us off so bad we nuked them.
In those 75 years Japan has gone from being an enemy to an ally.
The ruins of Japanese cities have become bustling centers of commerce.
The bustling centers of commerce that were American cities have become ruins...
I guess the Japanese don't vote Democrat...

And yet people still insist, to this day, we didn't need to nor should have dropped the bombs on them.
ReplyDeleteBecause firebombing, defoliation, starvation and a bloody invasion with a death toll only found in fantasy books, leading to the end of the Japanese as a people (only existing in small pockets in the US, maybe) and a weakened US ready for an actual Soviet Invasion, is so much more sensible than just flicking a lightbulb from on high.
Not to mention the release of chemical and biological attacks which the Japanese were ready and willing to do.
Pity we can't give Detroit to the Japanese.
ReplyDeleteI love listening to people tell me we should have dropped the bomb off shore. The explosion would have demonstrated what would happen to Japan if they didn't surrender.
ReplyDeleteThe correct answer is: We dropped a demonstration bomb on Hiroshima, they didn't surrender, that's why we dropped the second bomb.
