Damsel

I just got done watching Nexflix's Damsel.

It's not what the pundits who hate "The Message" think it was.

It probably wouldn't have garnered any controversy if the dancing monkeys who made it had just let the work stand on its own merit.

It's not what the makers say it was.

It does not subvert the genre.

It's female empowerment in the sense of, "what if the damsel in distress had some damned agency?"

Elodie certainly does.

She gets the shit beaten out of her in the process, it's not a Mary Sue tale.

If you're a D&D geek, give it a whirl.

You will be rewarded by a dragon with the proper four-legs and two-wings.

The dragon is voiced by Shohreh Aghdashloo.  I would listen to her read a dictionary.

  1. That does sound interesting. Kind of like the Hack/Slash comic...where the "final girl" in a slasher flick-in-real-life not only escapes, but goes on the offensive, hunting other slashers down and doing unto them what they do unto others.

  2. It sounds like a good watch if I hadn't canceled Netflix last year. The last straw was removing a show and announcing a rate increase which convinced me I was being charged more for less so I bailed.
I've been watching The Tunnel on PBS which is interesting on its own and also as an English remake of a Swedish show (The Bridge) which requires the French lead to act very Scandinavian.

    1. Much like a boat; Netflix is best when someone else is paying.
