Continuity Of Care

My doc found out I had critically low vitamin D.

She prescribed a massive supplement for it.

Had an appointment to have that level checked.

No word since.

Does this mean I'm cured?

  1. Probably means you should follow up with the nurse.

  2. They do that in private medicine too. I was detected with Low D, given the supplement and got some regular caplets on my own. They didn't even bother to order the test.

  3. Maybe you're dead and this is the best your imagination can come up with.

  4. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol aka "the sunshine vitamin") is synthesized in the skin by the reaction of 7-dehydrocholesterol with UVB radiation, present in sunlight with an UV index of three or more.

I would suggest getting more sun on your skin (maybe difficult in winter) in addition to supplements.

Here in sunny Oz, we have recently had many case of rickets due to vitamin D deficiency. Interestingly, most sufferers are devout muslim immigrant women, who won't be seen outside without completely covering their skin.

Since the biologically active form of Vitamin D has a major role regulating the concentration of calcium and phosphate, and promoting the healthy growth and remodeling of bone, it may be especially significant for you given your injuries.
