Windows

I think I finally thought of a reasonable use for windows in the magazines!

It's to tell how much ammo is in the pouches of the dead guys.

It's not for tracking YOUR ammo, it's for when you're policing up magazines after the battle and expecting more fighting before resupply.

As far as I know, this has never been listed as a reason to have such windows in the side of the magazine.

They're also good for when your wife asks, "does this magazine have bullets in it?"

  1. Color me clueless, but I was wondering what Windows (the computer program) or that little cutout on the sleeve or cover of the magazine that shows the address had to do with bulle... Oh. Okay. Gotcha.

I thought it was so, when they're sitting on a shelf or in a box or range bag, you could check to see what the load-state of the magazine was. Or to sell more mags...

Though checking load-state of scrounged mags during a battle works, too.

    1. I am pretty sure the real reason Magpul did it was, "isn't this neat!?!"

But they'd been buried in, "why don't you make a translucent or clear mag like the AUG?" from nearly the beginning.

    2. Why haven't they converted? Just waiting to sell out existing inventory or some other reason?

    3. There's people who see no use for the feature and will never buy a mag with it. So the solid is still sold. It's cheaper to leave the window out too.

  2. After a while you get to where you can roughly estimate how many rounds are in a USGI type AR mag by the weight.
