Harnessing Photons

I'm embarking on adding fog lights to The Beast.

Tonight I tested the lights and harness I bought.

The problem here is the G8 headlight switch grounds the lead rather than connects it to 12v as the harness expects.

Prolly an easy fix for this.

Even if I have to replace the relay part of the setup, the price of the harness was essentially the same as the two plugs for the H10 bulbs in the light housings.

  1. I'd fix the issue with an extra relay. Supply the coil part with a fused ignition hot wire and feed the ground side of the coil to the headlight switch. The switch side of the relay will have a fused ignition hot wire and the other supplies the fog light system. Depending on the under hood fuse and relay box, you may be able to mount it in the box, and not have to worry about a separate relay mount. Been getting paid to do this stuff for 40 years, been doing it almost 50.

    1. Marv's on it!

There's about five fused hot-in-run circuits left over from the police "upfitting" that are currently abandoned in place we can use to get 12v to the pin on the headlight switch. That will be the activator circuit to close the relay. Bonus! Those circuits already penetrate the firewall, so I don't have to route them through a grommet.
