I am constantly amazed at how long it takes people to order food at Chick-Fil-A and Taco Bell.
Neither place has a large menu.
They both have like six menu items. There just isn't that much to choose from.
Why does it take five plus minutes to make a selection?

ReplyDeleteSomeone ordering for multiple persons/chow run situation?
ReplyDeleteI think those people are related to everybody at the supermarket checkout who starts searching for a credit card only AFTER all items are scanned and the total is known.
ReplyDeleteDo they REALLY not realise earlier than then, that they will have to PAY for their groceries?
I wonder if they are equally indecisive about any of the other zillion daily decisions they have to make. Perhaps they have never learned, or been taught, how to evaluate data and make decisions, or, perhaps, these days so much is pre-decided for them it has become a Lost Skill.
ReplyDeleteBecause most people are a bunch of indecisive and inconsiderate morons.
ReplyDeleteAlso anyone that doesn't use the good Chic Fil A app to order and then save it for next time is an absolute idiot.
It's very convenient and they give you good "free" food at remarkably low levels.
I think you need to lower your expectations of the average fast food connoisseur. ;) -JKing
ReplyDelete"Why does it take five plus minutes to make a selection?" - Because people cannot read the menu and decide what it is they want before getting to the window / counter. Especially if the people ordering have children who have the attention span of a fly.
ReplyDeleteMy son (autistic) sometimes drives people crazy when he orders. He pays for his meals using exact change, taking time to count it out. Even when he already knows how much the meal is going to cost, there he is pulling out a bag of change and counting it out on the counter. His Mom and I apologize to the people waiting to order, explaining autism is a condition, not a choice.

Angus, I posit that it takes so long because most of the people that go there are infrequent visitors and do not know the system or menu. I use myself as an example, went to one about 5 years ago, one time. Since then, don't bother because invariably the lines to get in or even the drive through are always jammed full. So, were I to actually gain entry, it would take me some time to figure out what to order, even if limited menu. That is one feature of Chic Fil A - they are always jammed full of patrons not matter what time of day, great for the bottom line I guess.
ReplyDeleteI used to love going to Taco bell, same issue now, long lines and in their case, they have overly complicated their entire menu system and name stuff in ways that make zero sense. YMMV
"...one feature of Chic Fil A - they are always jammed full of patrons not matter what time of day,..."
DeleteSo, since there's always a line, if patrons would spend the queue time reading the menu instead of fiddling with their phones or discussing yesterday's/tomorrow's sportsball event, they might be ready to order when it's their turn. That said, a larger typeface on the wall menu boards just might also be helpful.
I suspect it also confirms the tendency to Dramatically Fail a Planning Event; I doubt anyone finds themselves in Chik-Fil-A (or any other fast food establishment) totally by surprise. With children, whose default position is indecision, give them 30 seconds to decide then make the decision for them (extended to 45-60 seconds if it's the first time there for them). Two or three of those will convince them to pay attention and decide (same thing works with adults, too, but most are much slower to learn).
You need to get out among people more, the current level of stupid in the public square is almost incomprehensible . Also it is possible you are seeing stoners trying to order fast food, Taco Bell is especially attractive to stoners.
ReplyDeleteAnalysis paralysis or failure to plan? Admittedly Taco Bell does generate an enormous number of variations on the basic concept of filling, cheese, tortilla.
