FTX Fail

First, the M&P 9 2.0 Compact isn't properly called an M&P 9C.

Mostly because the true 9C was a 12-round gun with the matching shorter grip.

I point this out because if you tell the counter person 9C they will bring you a too short 12 round magazine when you want a 15-rounder.

Now to answer the question Slow Joe Crow asked:

My gun shoots 115gr Critical Defense FTX rounds no problem.  Slightly tighter groups than Winchester White Box.

Harvey's doesn't appear to like anything FTX.  Lots of fail to feed.

Happily Yee Olde Hydra-Shok appears to work fine, and so does Speer Gold-Dot.

We're hoping it's a break-in issue and will clear up as we use the pistol.

  1. i always suspected the FTX bullet might cause feeding problems in autos. Rubbery tip sticking on the feed ramp.

    1. This is our first, ever, problem with any Hornady JHP. And just the one example which the other two examples have no issues.

    2. Weird. Three of the same pistol and only one has issues with FTX. Are you running 115 or 124 Gold Dots.. +p or standard? 124+Ps are the tits. But it seems you're not a +p guy? -JKing

    3. 3 S&W M&P 2.0 9mm Compacts. Just Harvey's has trouble with the Hornady FTX. Both the 100gr Lite and 115gr standard pressure.

I don't stock +P ammo because I don't want to get the ammo confused and put excessive wear on one of the C&R guns. Unlikely, but...

We're changing her over to standard pressure 125gr Federal HST. It outperforms FTX in the Lucky Gunner comparison chart and isn't a lot more expensive.

I'd planned on using the standard pressure 115gr Gold Dot, but I couldn't find any locally.

    4. 124 and 125 are the same bullet weight when typos are happening.

    5. Standard pressure 124 HST is a fine choice -JKing

  2. A little break in time, a vigorous cleaning and look for any burrs or rub marks, etc... You know the drill. Anyway, I was never a big Speer fan years ago... but I really like Gold Dots these days, especially in .45 ACP and .44 Mag. Can't argue with the trusty Hydra-Shock of course.... There's a reason why those two products have been on the market so long.

    1. We're going with the 124gr HST, which is the "modernized" Hydra Shok.

Can't find any Speer that's not +P around here for love or money. HST is at both the shops I frequent the most.
