Let's Keep The Guns

Soviet Union 1922-91

20,000,000

Nazi Germany 1933-45

10,500,000

Democratic People's Republic of Korea 1948-present

2,000,000

People's Republic of West Taiwan 1949-present

65,000,000

Warsaw Pact Nations (Combined) 1955-91

1,000,000

Socialist Republic of Vietnam 1975-present

1,000,000

Cambodia 1975-79

3,000,000

Afghanistan 1978-92

5,000,000

Plus various Communist governments in Africa and South America mid 1960's - present.

7,150,000

114,650,000 people dead from being disarmed by their government and having a different opinion from that government.

1.16 million people per year for the past 99 years.

Compared to 18,252 homicides per year from guns; I think we're better off with keeping the guns.

  2. I think some of your numbers are a little light... Mao was responsible for more like 80+ million dead. And there isn't a lot of reason to believe that if guns were banned in the US that there would be 18k fewer murders per year. Probably a lot of those would just be accomplished by another means... And even in countries with virtual 100% gun bans somehow criminals still get them. It isn't like they can easily be un-invented, and the government could never round them all up. And the government doesn't always do a great job of keeping tracks of the ones it has either. -swj
