Remember when I talked about fixing a leak back in April?
Well the water company, despite saying they'd help us out with the bill...
Took a whopping $25 off the total and we're on the hook for $500 worth of water. And $150 of sewer.
Normal bills are about $100 total.
Motherfucker Cocksucker!
It's no wonder I can't get any money saved to do the DOD/AFM delete or even sportier exhaust saved up.
I have to unass the least loved guns at bargain prices to just keep ahead of the bleeding.
Yeah, know how you feel. Had a leak on my side of the water meter, didn't notice it for days, cost me almost $600 after I got a savings from the utilities.
ReplyDeletealways something... my ac unit is pushing 20 yrs old... I'll trade your cost for the water... since my heater runs on gas, total cost to replace my unit will be $10-11k... not looking forward to it, don't expect it to make it through the summer.... panzer guy
ReplyDeleteI know just how you feel.
ReplyDeleteKnow the feeling well, but here is a suggestion. Write a nice letter to one of the VP level folks at the water/sewer Co, if female all the better. Enclose copies of the amount just billed and a copy of same period pre leak showing the huge discrepancy and then a paragraph asking nicely for reconsideration, and that you might consider some extra cost is manageable but not 5X normal as the leak occurred where it was not detectable until the huge increase in cubic footage was evident, etc . You may be pleasantly rewarded. I always send the nice letterer and usually get some benefit from otherwise faceless companies. Just put yourself in their shoes, they probably hear all the screaming and invective daily, where "nice" is rare. Wishing you success as the worst outcome is no change to where you are already at.
ReplyDeleteThe $25 off my bill is what they did after I had the nice conversation with the lady on the other end.
DeleteYup, got that 10-4 but written gets seen by more than one voice on the phone. In fact, CC others if you can get names/office/address - exposure means you are a squeaky wheel, get more oil. Buena suerte amigo McThag.
DeleteEven if they argue that the water went through your meter, so you bought it, you would think they could see the logic in dropping the sewer fee to your normal amount. This assumes they understand the leak was outside the house and the excess water did not enter their sewer system. I don't know if the plumbers invoice shows that the leak was outside the house.

In the wild west of Florida water and sewer... I pay a private company for water and the county for sewer.
DeleteThe county reasonably reduced the charges to the normal average.
