Um He's The Bad Guy

Cobra Commander's hood is now problematic?

Why?

He's the fucking baddie!

Make him a white supremacist!  Go for it!

HE'S THE FUCKING BAD GUY IN CHARGE OF THE TERRORIST ORGANIZATION BENT ON TAKING OVER THE WORLD!!!!!

You're not supposed to like him!

He's supposed to be evil, and the hood is supposed to evoke a dislike.

If you think he's problematic, then the imagery worked and was effective.

  1. No, it is "cultural appropriation". The only people allowed to wear head garb like that these days are Muslim women. It is offensive for a white male like Cobra Commander to wear it.

Or something like that. It is all stupid. Cobra Commander is a fictional character. A character in a really, pretty stupid and awful cartoon. As you've said, he's the bad guy. He's supposed to be hated. I don't see the problem with portraying an offensive character as a bad guy, even if he is racist, homophobic, or just plain evil. As long as none of that is portrayed in a sympathetic way, I don't see how it's bad. If every character is good there's no plot. If every bad guy is indistinguishable from the good guys, then won't it confuse children? The people who take all of this so serious that they have to censor cartoons and revise history to water it down are awful.
