Hunted

It occurred to me that any fantasy adventuring party returning from a successful romp would be targeted by the local thief's guild.

The players wouldn't like it much being subjected to death poverty by a thousand cuts.

Something that's often overlooked is taxes.

Taxation was often very severe back in feudal times.

  1. It has occurred to me that a lot of fantasy adventuring parties leave money lying on the table, so to speak. For instance, back when I played AD&D, we were often up against animated skeletons---not that difficult to "kill," and afterward my character would gather up some of the bones. There were spells in the rule book where the material component was a bone from an undead creature...

    1. Someone in one of Bear's worlds had sat down and written out all the spell components and actively looked for them during adventures. He made some coin off that. I wanna say it was Chris Solberg.
