This has proven so very hard to phrase to my liking.
Our duct work needs replaced. It's causing an excessive pressure differential and that will kill the AC system prematurely. This is spending money to save money later.
We misunderstood that the tech told us last year and "$1,000 per vent" became "$1,000 for the whole job."
So we saved up that $1,000 and were shocked to learn that the job was really $1,250 per vent and $600 for a new plenum box for the air handler.
It needs done, and the company offered financing.
Being responsible all these years finally paid off with improved credit the other day and we were approved for the $4,600 balance. I am as shocked as you are!
Harvey is handling the details. She's the financial person here.
It's strange that we can do this now. Like adults do things. It's weird!
PS: This is a second attempt at what I was saying in the deleted "Clinched" post.
I hope you had a couple people take a look at that. Something doesn't sound right. Are there no volume dampers?

1969 duct work doesn't have anything but the tubes and vents.
DeleteWe also need it done to improve the insulation of the system to vastly improve the efficiency.
One of the smartest things I did was bundle together replacement of all duct work with replacement of the whole house gas heater.
ReplyDeleteI opened up most every plenum (part of a different project) which helped the HVAC crew a lot. The new heater was much more efficient and small enough to fit into the attic. That eliminated the utility closet which I used for more living space.
New gas lines were plumbed by a contractor who owed me a favor. Still, that was a low cost item.
The part not out of pocket was a ridiculously low % from my credit union.
High pressure system? Good luck with your project
ReplyDeleteI paid 1500 5yrs ago for new ductwork with HVAC-its beautiful-if that can be said about ducting
