More were killed and wounded, more property destroyed, in Tokyo during the firebombing. But the shock value, combined with Nagasaki, most likely allowed Japan to exist outside of a history museum.
ReplyDeleteProbably a darned good thing that Germany surrendered when it did. Though 'accidentally' nuking Moscow (with Stalin) might have seen Patton die from laughing too much.
Truman chose... wisely.
