Seventy three years ago this minute, Little Boy dropped free from Enola Gay and became the first atomic weapon fired in anger.

  1. More were killed and wounded, more property destroyed, in Tokyo during the firebombing. But the shock value, combined with Nagasaki, most likely allowed Japan to exist outside of a history museum.

    Probably a darned good thing that Germany surrendered when it did. Though 'accidentally' nuking Moscow (with Stalin) might have seen Patton die from laughing too much.

    Truman chose... wisely.
