Reading Warpath and Bivouac: or The Conquest of the Sioux by John Finnerty.
I'm in the opening couple of pages and something hits me about how much journalism has changed.
He's being sent by The Chicago Times to join General Crook's column.
They funded his trip and purchase of his "outfit".
What stands out, "My next care was to purchase arms and a riding outfit..."
The embed brought his own gun and the newspaper he's working for paid for it.
The Past is a different country.
Enjoy the read! Finnerty was old school. By the end he gets close to eating his horse.
